ROAD TO XIBALBA

WHY?

“The sharp edge of a razor is difficult to pass over; thus the wise say the path to Salvation is hard.”

- Katha-Upanishad

I started this blog for a number of reasons.

First, I need a creative outlet.  As a law student, I rarely have time outside my studying to pursue any kind of creative endeavor.  When I do have some extra time, my brain needs a rest, and I’d rather be doing something less intense.  Like watching movies.  Or boozing.

Right now I am bursting with ideas, stories, reviews, experiences that I want to relate to others.  This is the time to do it.  I told Nikita the other day that when I came home from work in the evening, I nearly panicked from trying to decide what to do with spare time.  Work on the script?  Read Guns, Germs and Steel?  Learn Dreamweaver so I can create websites?  Draw some more stencils?  Watch The Fountain one more time?  And now, write a blog entry?

Second, I want to improve my writing skills.

Third, I want to write about, and relate to others, the things I like.  Having so many passions is a blessing and a curse.  I’m lucky to be inspired other people and their stories, experiences and creative works, but all that inspiration turns into a clusterfuck of ideas in my head.  It’s easy to start a project, but it’s quite another thing to finish it.  It’s also easy to go to law school, but it’s another thing to be a lawyer your whole life.  The contents of this blog are diverse and cover a lot of what I’m interested in.

Fourth, and perhaps most importantly, I’m writing to figure out what my true passions are.  This blog is a self-prescribed compass that I hope points me in the right direction.

Well done. After reading your review of the film “The Firm,”I appreciate it more than ever. Your article awakened the intensity of McDeere’s angst and emotional conflict so well that the film now has more significance for me on a personal level.

I think I recognize some of your influences.

Is that Matteo or is it you?
